Newly single and hitting Vancouver…

Last week I took a chance and wrote Friends with Benefits, and Hard Drive reacted favourably and asked me out (happy face here).  You may also remember Hard Drive from Your Homepage or Mine, or Can you spell P-R-E-T-Z-E-L.

Short story: Our date was fantastic; one of the best.  I haven’t laughed that hard in a very, very long time.  I laughed until tears were streaming down my face, more than once.  I assured Hard Drive that I wasn’t laughing at him.  90% of the time, that was the truth.

Long Story: The plan was a picnic in the park and some Scrabble on Friday night.  Hard Drive picking me up from home was a nice change from meeting in public places, and the fact that he was a total gentleman (planned everything, opened car doors, poured the wine, etc) was a nice change from the norm.  We parked alongside Rupert Park and found a nice spot beside the baseball diamond.  I got out of the car, and Hard Drive pulled out THE CLUB.  You know, from the late 80’s early 90’s?  Awesome.  I laughed.  A lot.  Out loud.

In case you forget about The Club, or are looking for a great anti-theft-device, check out this video:

Hard Drive had packed pretzels and dip, some one-bite brownies (so good) and a bottle of white.  We played a game of Scrabble (I won, obviously) and we moved onto just chilling and chatting.  Chemistry was definitely there (a little hand-holding and footsies) but not so much to be comfortable with a first kiss, which I blurted out: “I’m totally cool with what’s going on here, but I’d rather you not go in for a kiss if you were thinking it”.  Was that mean?  I suppose I should be embarassed if he wasn’t thinking of a kiss, but I was pretty sure that’s where he wanted it to go next…  Hmmm…  Anyway, that awkward moment passed and we were there till midnight talking about everything under the sun/moon.

As an aside, I feel embarrassed to admit that even a full decade past high school, coolness still somewhat seems to be of concern to me.  I hope it’s not at all a deciding factor, but Hard Drive is so far from the guys I ever would have dated in the past.  However, I had a kickass night, and what do I know?  Obviously my “type” hasn’t proven successful yet.

After he dropped me off, I shot him a quick text:

ME: I had a really great night.  Thank you for putting the evening together.  So nice.

Hard Drive: Me too.  You’re such a nice, kind person.  Thanks for the good convo and laughs! xo

I got an “xo”!  Can you spell G-I-D-D-Y?

Note to Hard Drive: According to the online Hasbro Scrabble Dictionary, O-V-O is not a word.  Q-U-I-D-S however, is.
